The American Revolution instantly became a more interesting topic for my students when we began interspersing our discussion of the war with portions of the classic movie, "The Patriot." Students are beginning to understand how the war affected everyone in the colonies, not just those who were fighting. They are asking excellent questions concerning how the colonists were able to survive long enough to win the war. In general, they are becoming very inquisitive, thus providing the spark for excellent classroom discussion. It is hard many times to keep the kids focused on any given topic, but the use of this movie has served as a positive motivator which is a huge part of helping the students achieve success.
