Hi Krysia,
This is great! Thank you for creating a group folder! I will definitely post ideas and questions. I can't wait for the NJASL to find out more information about inviting author visits. I just found out I have money available for professional development/consultants. Do you know how much is the going rate for author visit? This is all new to me!

Author Visits usually are around $1000 for a day. There are a few out there that are less (very few) and quite a few out there that are more. It is not unusual for it to be $1,200 to $1,500 or more for someone good. They will do usually 4-5 assembiles or writing workships and sign books for the kids if they purchase them in advance. I like the author/illustrators or author/illustrator pairs as they will sometimes draw right in front of the kids and leave this artwork behind for the library...it's really a wonderful experience to see an author read their own work and explain how it has come to be.
I will get it together to post some of thie info I gleened from my list-serve buddies.

Our PTA arranges for author visits and currently, a few PTA members ruffled the feathers of the woman how has done it for the past few years. I don't know if we will have an author this year. I can recommend authors but beyond that I have noooooo part in it. I am too new right now to comment but I am hoping that by the spring I will be able to have some input into the sellectio process.

I thought it would be nice for us to have a "group" in this little class of ours. I have invited all I could find from the class. I 'd like to explore how easy/hard this is to use so that I can see if it could be used as a tool for the teachers that I work with in Pompton Lakes. Hope we all learn something!
