Welcome! - what do you do in your school...

What do you do in your school to include students in technology? Do they have responsibility for the school website? Do they do tech support? Do teachers turn to students to help with technology? Is this a formal or informal program at your school?

Hi!
At south high school, our Gen yes studnets focus on providing web page support for our teachers. This has really helped the staff get online and pushes the envelope for its use. The students love it and so do the teachers!

In our large school district, we are using the GenYes curriculum in 4 different school settings this year. It is being used in an elementary school with students in grades 4-6, in a middle school with 7th and 8th graders, and in 2 high school settings. One of these is at our alternative high school, where there are 7 students enrolled in this elective class. In another high school setting, a class for those students who are exploring the field of education as a career are learning the GenYes curriculum. We are just beginning, so not much to report yet!

Welcome to the group, cstafford!
We hope to use this group in teachade this year to see if it is helpful to stay connected this way. It's an interesting concept!

By the way, are your students on the OCN? There are some good discussions (moderated, of course) going on about using technology in schools that might spark some interest at the end of a long day!

This is my 4th year as this district's only Library Media Specialist. I am looking for upbeat experiences with student/teacher technology mentoring to share with our district technology committee. Where do I begin creating a paradigm shift that will lead to students sharing their knowledge and expertise about technology issues? The practice now is the outdated "the teacher is the giver of information" model and if a teacher is uncomfortable with his or her own skills, no learning takes place inside OR outside the box! I'm looking for best practices, models, curriculum... anything to help me take the lead with these first baby-steps toward positive change.
