National Standards

Just yesterday we attended a press conference in Washington about a new report issued by the Thomas B. Fordham Foundation (www.edexcellence.net) entitled "To Dream the Impossible Dream". It presents four approaches to national standards and testing. We're interested in seeing what people think, generally about national standards, and specifically about which approach might be the best one for developing/implementing them: Model #1 - The Whole Enchilada (federal government creating and enforcing national standards and assessments) that would replace those used in the fifty states. Model #2 - If You Build It They Will Come (voluntary version of above, providing states incentives to opt in). Model #3 - Let's All Hold Hands (states are encouraged to work together to develop common standards and tests). Model #4 - Sunshine and Shame (make state standards and tests results more transparent and easier to compare to one another and NAEP). Let's take a poll; what do folks think???
